Coach Knight Teaching
KNIGHT SCHOOL IN SESSION WITH BADEN PERFECTION™ ELITE

[Feb-17-2006]

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Bob Knight will give one Texas Tech student the chance to play on his team in a reality show hosted by the Hall of Fame coach. Sixteen students will attend "Knight School," the name of the show set to air on ESPN February 19th, and Knight will whittle the class to one during six one-hour episodes. That player will have endured what all Knight players do—long hours of drills, conditioning and instruction—and will have chance to be a walk-on for the 2006-07 season.

It's a great opportunity for the kids at Texas Tech who want to have a shot at playing for a legend as well as learning from a legend, said Robert Lundgren, one of the shows executive producers with Knoxville, Tenn.-based RIVR Media.
It was an amazing thing to be a part of,Lundgren said of the filming of the series, which airs on ESPN at 10 p.m. (9 Central) for six Sundays. In a lot of TV reality shows, they'll advertise a well-known star who's going to be part of it, but you'll only see the guy for a little while at the start and at the end. This is coach Knight's show from beginning to end. And the thing is, it's not just about him. It's about these 16 kids doing everything they can to impress him and make his team. I think the show would be interesting to watch with any successful college coach, but when it's Bob Knight, that just lifts the whole project up to another level.”

In addition to the tryout format, filming will include shots of the campus and the students in class and in other activities. From a public relations standpoint, this couldn't be any better for Texas Tech,Knight said.

Athletic director Gerald Myers said Knight and his style will do well in front of cameras.Bob will be great with a show like this, Myers said. It'll be a great opportunity to play with one of the all-time great basketball coaches. He's excited about it. We're excited about it.

With 866 college wins, Bob Knight probably will pass Dean Smith's record 879 sometime next season. Knight's overall record in 40 seasons at Army, Indiana and Texas Tech is 866-344, a winning percentage of .716.

Coach Knight's career highlights include three NCAA titles at Indiana (1976,˜81,˜87) and his 1991 induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. His 1975-76 Indiana team finished 32-0 and remains the most recent major-college men's team to post a perfect season. He also coached the 1984 U.S. Olympic team to a gold medal.

Bob Knight has been a BEST CHOOSE BADEN® Coach since 1987.  His current Texas Tech Red Raider team's ball of choice is the PERFECTION™ ELITE (BX7E).  Make sure to see him espouse the virtues of the ball in the PERFECTION™ Basketball Video at www.badensports.com.
